Huckleberry Music Camp takes place at
Billie Bear Resort.
Half an hour away from the town of Huntsville and half hour from Algonquin park,
the camp occupies a lush green area surrounded by the natural beauty of Muskoka.
With the typical warm breeze, the outdoors is ideal for music making. All concerts and
master classes are held outdoors, weather permitting. During a daytime stroll, it is
typical to hear music all around you.
Within the resort, Huckleberry camp occupies approximately five hundred and fifty feet
of waterfront property. Billie Bear resort has a shallow, sandy beach cordoned off at 50 feet and
less that 3 feet deep perfect for children. Adults and older children can swim from
the main dock, which extends 70 feet out and is about 6 feet deep. Water temperature
is perfect for swimming during the summer. A central fire pit with picnic tables for all cookouts
and campfires complements the beach area.
The camp has a main lodge centrally located within the resort that contains an
activity room filled with games, a library, sitting room, TV room and a snack store.
The main lodge serves as an important hub for camp members. During the day, the main
lodge is used for orchestra rehearsals, ensemble lessons, group lessons, private
lessons, and arts and crafts. In the evening students and parents can relax in
the sitting room or on the patio connected to the main lodge. Evening
concerts are held in the main lodge during inclement weather.
Suzuki and junior families are provided with a private housekeeping cottage. The cottages are close to the waterfront and have a private deck or patio offering excellent views. Each cottage has a fully equipped kitchen complete with pots and pans, utensils, coffee maker, toaster, kettle, stove and fridge, and a four-piece bathroom. Guests can bring their own towels for the beach. Linen, pillows, blankets, and bathroom tissues are provided. BBQ's are also provided.
The senior and older junior students are housed in large cottages, one each for the boys and girls. Camp counsellors live with the students to supervise the cottage, provide support and organize entertaining activities. Often these counsellors are Huckleberry Music Camp alumni or faculty assistants, who help the students have the best possible time. Students may bring their own sleeping bags. Please bring your own beach towels.
